  • SSL Ranking Shifts After a Busy Start to the 2026 Season

After a series of major events at the start of the 2026 sailing season, the SSL Ranking has seen some notable changes. Key regattas included the 55th Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía, the 57th Semaine Olympique Française in Hyères, and the 470 European Championships.

    SSL Global Ranking – helm

Sitting firmly at the top of both the global and men’s rankings is Great Britain’s John Gimson. The Nacra 17 sailor delivered solid performances, finishing 3rd in Palma (750 points) and 6th in Hyères (216 points). These results bring his total to 6875 points, keeping him in the lead of the SSL Ranking.

Climbing up to second place is Spain’s Jordi Xammar with 6813 points. The 470 specialist has been in outstanding form, winning back-to-back World Cup events in Palma and Hyères, and adding a third-place finish at the 470 European Championships held in Portugal in mid-March.

Third place belongs to Diego Botín, who has yet to compete in any SSL-scoring events this season but still holds his position thanks to previous results.

The top-ranked woman is Ireland’s Eve McMahon, currently sitting 16th in the overall global helm ranking. She claimed victory in Mallorca and followed it up with a second-place finish in Hyères. Her performance at the Portugal Grand Prix in February—an event worth 500 points—also played a important role, where she finished second.

    SSL Global Ranking – crew

In the crew ranking, Anna Burnet leads the way with 6975 points. As John Gimson’s Nacra 17 teammate, she continues to benefit from their consistent results. Second place goes to Marta Cardona (6188 points), who sails alongside Jordi Xammar in the 470 class.

    SSL Nation Ranking

When it comes to the nation’s ranking, Great Britain remains firmly in control. British sailors are delivering top performances across multiple classes, including ILCA 7 contenders Elliot Hanson and Michael Beckett, the reigning 470 European champions Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris, and Olympic silver medalists John Gimson and Anna Burnet in the Nacra 17.

Looking ahead, the 49er World Championships are just around the corner and they could shake things up even further in the rankings.
